Gone Fishin’
In Sherman County we have the Smoky Garden River. While it may not always have water in it anymore, at one time it was a local hang-out. From Dr. Gulick to families having a BBQ to 4-H kids learning how to fish the Smoky Garden has been a part of our community.
Romance on the Plains
At the museum we have a small research library that contains books on museum topics, items in the museum, and books that relate to Sherman County history. The history books range from Custer, to the railroad to life on the plains. One book however that caught my eye was Courtship Letters of John Bruere and Lydia Miller 1888.
On your mark, Get set, Fair!
On September 21, 22, and 23, 1886 Sherman County had its first fair! It looked different from the fair we know today. They still had crafts, livestock, and agricultural products, but also had pony and horse races and a baseball game!
