The High Plains Museum is excited to celebrate Kansas Day with Dr. Jeff Broome who will present about the Kidder Massacre and we will honor and dedicate our Kidder Massacre collection to the late Mr. Doug Whitson. Our celebration will take place on January 28th at 2:00 PM Mountain Time at the High Plains Museum.
Dr. Broome has a Ph.D. in philosophy and was a long-tenured professor – now professor emeritus – from a state community college in Metro-Denver. He is a well published author on the Plains Indian wars in Colorado, Kansas, and Nebraska. Broome’s great-great uncle was with the 3rd Colorado Cavalry at Sand Creek, and was credited by his commanding officer for killing White Antelope. Broome’s family has been in Colorado since 1859.
In 2019, Doug Whitson donated his collection of Kidder Massacre artifacts to the High Plains Museum. This extensive collection took Whitson years to collect and identify and he graciously gave the objects so they could be viewed and studied for generations to come. Whitson was a locally renowned preservationist of Western history and we are honored to dedicate and unveil his amazing collection of Kidder Massacre artifacts.
