Ever wonder what it was like to go to school in a one room school house?  We know that grades first through eight were all taught in the same place, but how?  Eighth graders were not learning the same thing as second graders right?  If you have completed grades 3-5 and would like to know, sign up for the One Room School House camp at the museum!

One room school house

The camp will take place June 13th, 14th, and 15th, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM in the school house located next to the High Plains Museum.  The camp will give kids a chance to see what types of subjects were taught and play games of the 1880’s.  We will also take a closer look at life in a room school house, like having no water fountain or heat!

Each student will need to bring a shoe box, coffee can or basket on the first day to be decorated.  At the end of the camp we will have a box social for students, family and friends to participate in with a lunch prepared by the students!  It will be a fun way to end the camp and see what your child has learned!  Registration is free and ends this Friday, June 8th, and is limited to the first fifteen children that sign up.  Please call the High Plains Museum at 785-890-4595 to register your child.
