Happy Valentine’s Day! It’s Sami and I am going to tell you all about the Valentine’s Day night the museum is having. Parents, would you like a date night but do not know what to do with the kids? Bring them to the museum! We will have crafts, games and a story from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
All of the crafts, games and the story will be Valentine’s Day themed. This will be a fun way for the parents to spend some time together on Valentine’s Day and a great way for the kids to spend time with other kids, possibly make new friends, and most importantly have fun!
Part of my job as education coordinator is coming up with programs. The museum offers special monthly activities and it is my responsibility to design the crafts, games, and activities that the public will enjoy. First we must determine the day, which means checking calendars. The school, city, and library calendar are all consulted to see when would work best. After determining a day, then an activity is picked. From there I start to research different possibilities and we chose one that we like. Then we advertise and get the word out to the public.
The programs I create follow the Kansas Standards of Excellence. Each class is looked up to see what standards and benchmarks it fits into. The programs are all based on something in the museum, like the helicopter. I research the history, create a lesson, and then have an activity. In the case of the helicopter the program will have children make their own helicopters.
