GOODLAND CITY COMMISSION
Special Commission Work-Session

May 16, 2017 11:00 A.M.

Work-Session was called to order by Mayor Brian Linin, with Vice-Mayor Annette Fairbanks, Commissioner Gary Farris, Commissioner John Garcia and Commissioner Gwen Mai, responding to roll call.

Also present were Andrew Finzen – City Manager, Alex Weis – Code Enforcement and Sharmis Blake – Deputy City Clerk.

DISCUSSION ITEMS
Andrew stated, the purpose of the work-session is for the City Manager and City Commission to discuss communications, goal setting and planning in general. I would like to know if the Commission has ideas for correspondence, is email satisfactory or would you prefer a text or phone call. Consensus of the Commission is a weekly email from Andrew with updates to be aware of any major incidents. A discussion took place to ensure agenda packets are more functional. Planning and goal setting items were discussed to include unfit structures and beautification as a priority. The Commission discussed ways to get the community more involved and motivated. For public relations, sending thank-you notes to property owner’s after property has been cleaned up or requesting salvage yards to put up fences around their property would be positive for the community. Other items discussed included a government channel to post items such as street closures, outages and other information to keep citizens informed. The Commission felt we need more signage on interstate to promote Goodland and a community calendar with events around the City. A suggestion was to be able to stream live music downtown and in parks to feel like a welcoming community. Consensus of the Commission is that communication with the County Commission is going well and to continue joint meetings.

Work-Session adjourned at 1:00 p.m.
