GOODLAND CITY COMMISSION
Special Commission Meeting
July 24, 2023 5:15 P.M.
Mayor Aaron Thompson called the meeting to order with Vice-Mayor J. J. Howard, Commissioner Jason Showalter, Commissioner Ann Myers and Commissioner Brook Redlin responding to roll call.
Also present from the City were Joshua Jordan – IT Director, Mary Volk – City Clerk and Kent Brown – City Manager.

DISCUSSION AND ACTION ITEMS
- Request to cancel Contract with Midwest Tank Company, Inc. d/b/a USG Water – Kent stated, we requested meeting because of our contract on standpipe and the provision for notice of termination by August 1st in contract. The contract with Midwest Tank Company for the standpipe was signed on December 18, 1992; they have changed names many times in recent years. This remains the contract they operate under. The contract holds Midwest Tank Company responsible for the care and maintenance of the standpipe including the following: biennial draining and cleaning, any and all repairs, interior and exterior painting, and emergency service at no additional cost. The contract may be cancelled only if intent to cancel is received by registered mail signed by three elected officials prior to August 1st preceding the calendar year for service. No one has been here since 2020. We are requesting to cancel the contract for next year and asking to hold payment until receive a report on standpipe. Mayor Thompson asked, what will we do about maintenance on the standpipe? Kent stated, we have contacted both Viking and Maguire Iron who have submitted bids to repair roof on standpipe. At the next meeting we will address the bids and maintenance. These two companies have been more professional to date. Mayor Thompson stated, you have been doing due diligence to get Midwest Tank Company to contact us and they are not following through. We have two companies willing to do what we need done so your request seems right. ON A MOTION by Mayor Thompson to cancel contract with Midwest Tank Company, Inc. d/b/a USG Watereffective immediately seconded by Vice-Mayor Howard. MOTION carried on a VOTE of 5-0.
ADJOURNMENT WAS HAD ON A MOTION Commissioner Redlin seconded by Commissioner Showalter. Motion carried by unanimous VOTE, meeting Adjourned at 5:21 p.m.
